Merry Christmouse

Merry Christmouse

It seemed the woods were resting
Beneath the soft white snow
A tiny Mouse was testing
It slowly with its toe.

It shook its little pinkish foot
And wrinkled up its nose
It sure was time to leave the woods
Before it really froze

On snowy crests it went to roam
To have a closer look
Across the fields at hither home
And find a comfy nook

Quite carefully it glanced about
The big and mighty wall
Then treaded gingerly, not loud
Into the tiny hole.

How dark it was and what a smell
A most delicious whiff
He found that this was “the” hotel
To winter and to sniff

Along the shelves and cans of food
A place so warm and cozy
He took a sample to conclude
That life here could be rosy

For days he dwelled in happiness
And everything was swell
The sugar, flour, what a mess
A pleasureful noel.

But then one night he got quite nosy
And squeezed beneath the door
To sniff about and then to mosey
Across the kitchen floor

He found a crumb, one here one there
Then scrambled off to see
What lovely smell hung in the air
Below the Christmas tree

He checked the presents on the floor
Got stuck inside a bow
Saw ornaments and so much more
And nosed a mistletoe

Then suddenly he jumped up high
Into a snow white dip
Licked creamy milk and gave a try
The lovely chocolate chip

He polished off a good amount
Lefts crumbs in every place
Then wobbled off, fat, full and round
Back to this hiding space

All cuddled up, he had a dream
Of children’s Christmas cheer
Beneath the lovely tree he’d seen
That Santa had been here.
