Fall

Fall

Cool and damp the forest floor
In the waning days of fall
Pools of rain in morning frore
An array of creatures small
Scrambling in the underbrush
Building shelter, finding food
Single-minded, in a rush
Harvest skilled and resolute
Cast in golden, crimson hue
Age-old trees in passing splendor
Autumn breezes, frost white dew
Fields and woods their life surrender
In the warmth of noonday rays
Leafs are swaying, softly, sailing
Soon to meet on earthen braes
Drifting downward spirals trailing
Cotton Clouds on steel blue skies
Rising steams on misty seas
Twisting shadows passing by
Setting winter spirits free
Thus the wheels of seasons turn
Eons pass through time and space
Nature, ageless and eterne
Lives in lasting states of grace
